NO TRESPASSING BOOKSHELF
Ever loyal to his technique of upcycling, David Elia has chosen to use a ladder symbolising the concept of “crossing over”. The way is obstructed by broken glass, a material habitually used in slums to keep intruders from entering. The abundant colours evoke the life force and profound creativity of the Brazilian people.
Thus a contradictory symbol emerges: how to build a way to rise up while meeting the need for protection?
This is a way to objectify the everyday violence omnipresent in Rio de Janeiro.
