CARJACKING MIRROR
Crime in Brazil has always been a highly public issue. Unfortunately, It has been part of the culture since the country’s independence and perhaps the lack of educational means and other urban issues add to the crime rate.
One example of a highly visible crime would be the carjacking which occurs in many cities. Carjacking is probably one of the most dangerous and extreme ways of robbing someone, not only to the victim, but to the robber as well.
It is advised as a driver to stay clear of tunnels or tedious traffic lights when this could possibly occur.
Elia’s goal in creating this work was to bring awareness to staggering amount of tinted car windows which can stop unwanted attention. Perpetrators are meant to be shunned away when they are unable to see the contents within the car. There seems to be a dual goal in installing these tinted windows, sometimes to protect lives and valuable possessions, but they also enable illegal activity a disguise.
