About the Designer

Alexandre Kostanda, born in 1924, is a ceramist of Polish origin, began his apprenticeship in 1936 with Louis Giraud in Vallauris, then taught in Biot before settling in Cluny in 1942, another high place of ceramics. In 1949 he returned to Vallauris. He is one of the organizers of the International Biennial of Ceramics in Vallauris, in 1968. His pieces, made from a mixture of sandstone and Vallauris earth, are of refined shapes with abstract or floral decorations in natural hues with a rustic appearance.
