About the Designer
The very nature of Fonck and Mateo being ceramists from Vallauris in Southern France added credibility to their work. However, their works exhibit a willingness to come up with new ideas as their environment pushed them to differentiate themselves from other ceramists. Fonck and Mateo focused on floral decoration by creating vases. Their standing in the mid-20th century French Vallauris pottery movement remains evident considering the continued interest in their vintage, hand-crafted ceramic pottery vases, lamps, and stoneware pitchers that are typical of the era. Their works are among those from the mid-20th-century French studio art pottery that collectors seek to maintain in vintage condition. The duo succeeded in creating pottery products with widespread appeal.
