GERMANO BRASILEIRO
Works on Paper
Another successful dialogue between art and design, a series of unique works on paper inspired by the Germano-Brasileiro ceramics collection. The prints are made using Ebru and Suminagashi technique of painting on water. The shape recalls the slice of an Agate stone.
A small vignette appears on the bottom right depicting workers in Idar-Oberstein polishing Agate stones. Idar-Oberstein is known as a gemstone centre. Until the 18th century, the area was a source for agate and jasper. A combination of low-cost labour and energy helped the gemstone-working industry flourish. The river Nahe provided free water power for the cutting and polishing machines at the mills.
On the lower left corner engraved onto the wooden frame, the typical load line markings found on the hull of a boat also called “Plimsoll mark”.
