Germano-Brasileiro is a new collection by David Elia brought to life by Sahrai.

In this collection Elia was influenced by the historical significance of German emigrants on Brazilian society and culture which still can be seen today.
In 1827, German emigrants from Idar-Oberstein, a leading gemstone center, discovered the world’s most important agate deposit in Brazil’s state of Rio Grande do Sul. As early as 1834, the first delivery of agate from Brazil had been sent back to Idar-Oberstein for polishing work, they were shipped as ballasts on empty vessels that offloaded cargo in Brazil.

The Germano-Brasileiro collection began with a limited edition of glazed ceramics incorporating Brazilian Agate, gilding, and cotton rope. The overall round shape of the ceramic work represents the hull of a boat and on the bottom poetically sits a slice of an Agate. Elia continued the successful collection with works on paper representing the cross section with its vibrant colors of an agate stone.
Sahrai has collaborated with Elia to make custom made rugs representing this unique collection with six luxury rugs, edition of five each. Using only the finest materials and exquisite color palette Sahrai has brought to life the historical story behind the Germano-Brasileiro collection.
